About the winemaker
During his studies in Biodiversity Sciences in Tokyo, Japanese winemaker Shun Minowa discovered his fascination for natural wine. His passion for natural ecosystems and their preservation was only affirmed by winemakers who worked with nature, not against it.

Following his intuition, Shun ventured to Spain and Chile, immersing himself in all the ins and outs of winemaking. This winding path eventually led him, at the age of 33, to the Trebbia Valley in Emilia Romagna in 2017. There, he worked alongside Giulio Armani and Elena Pantaleoni of La Stoppa, and met Andrea Cervini of the legendary winery Vino Del Poggio. It didn’t take long before Shun decided to settle permanently in the Trebbia Valley, where, thanks to Cervini, he had the opportunity to rent a 40-year-old vineyard.

About the vineyard
The vineyard that Shun has been stewarding since 2019 is planted mainly with local grape varieties Ortrugo and Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, complemented by smaller amounts of Marsanne and Trebbiano. Alongside fruit from his tiny family-run vineyard, Shun supplements his meagre yields by sourcing additional grapes whenever possible, allowing him to slightly increase his small-scale production.

About the wines
Shun’s wines are brimming with energy and purity so much so that, due to their immense popularity and the minuscule quantities produced, they are often nearly impossible to find. We’re thrilled to be able to offer a few cases each year here in the Netherlands.

For his whites, Shun isn’t shy about skin contact, and each wine expresses its own distinct character through his use of a wide variety of vessels and sizes. Acacia wood, cement, fiberglass, and oak barrels are all part of his repertoire each thoughtfully chosen for its specific purpose. Every wine is crafted with absolutely no additions, relying on time, patience, and the natural process to shape each bottle.
