About the winemaker
Daniele Portinari’s wine estate is nestled in the village of Lunigo, in the Colli Berici hills between Verona and Vicenza. In 2004, Daniele took over the family vineyard from his father, who had mainly produced grapes for the local cooperative. Right from the outset, Daniele adopted biodynamic farming and a natural approach to winemaking. These were guiding principles passed down by Angiolino Maule one of Veneto’s pioneers of natural wine and biodynamic viticulture, whose own vineyards are just a stone’s throw from Daniele’s. This heritage continues to inspire Daniele’s work as an artisan winemaker and low-intervention producer within the European natural wine community.

About the vineyard
The soils here are unique in Veneto: millions of years ago, this region was submerged beneath the sea, and the earth is now studded with fossilized shells and crustaceans. The climate is temperate enough that you’ll see olive trees thriving alongside the vines. Only the higher slopes are officially part of the DOC zone, which means Daniele’s lower-lying parcels are classified as Veneto IGT a technicality that doesn’t deter his commitment to sustainable viticulture and organic vineyards.

Today, Daniele tends about five hectares planted with Pinot Bianco, Garganega, Tai Bianco, Tai Rosso, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Across every wine, he seeks to let the terroir speak clearly and has refused to use sulphites since day one.

About the wines
Minerality is the hallmark of all Daniele’s wines, with his reds especially standing out for their soft, fresh character a surprising delicacy for Italian wines. There’s an elegance running through his bottles, at times almost atypical for Italy. Each wine quietly channels Daniele’s introspective, calm approach; they are poised, balanced, and pure expressions of their landscape.
