About the winemaker
Tom Lubbe is a South African by birth, raised in New Zealand. In the late 1990s, he found himself working at the only South African winery fermenting with indigenous yeasts and limiting yields for quality’s sake. Tom’s path then led him to France for an internship at the renowned Domaine Gauby in Roussillon, immersing himself in Mediterranean grape varieties. Gérard Gauby and Tom quickly became friends, and after his internship, Tom was invited back to help out in the cellar for three consecutive vintages years that also proved pivotal personally, as he met his wife Nathalie, Gérard’s sister.

About the vineyard
In 2003, Tom acquired his first vineyards around the village of Calce in French Catalonia, where the vines range from 60 to 120 years old. These organic vineyards are farmed entirely without chemical inputs, and Tom incorporates a handful of biodynamic practices to activate and nurture the soils an approach that sits at the heart of his philosophy as an artisan winemaker and low-intervention producer.

About the wines
No sulphites are added in the cellar, and the domaine is dedicated to achieving very low yields in pursuit of maximum concentration and minerality. Tom also harvests relatively early, which brings a naturally fresh energy and a modest alcohol level quite distinctive for wines from this sun-drenched corner of Roussillon.
